Speeding Cars in the Village

Sometimes I take the dogs for a walk to the water and let them swim around, to get there I have to cross E. Broadway, in front of Danfords and let me tell you it can be quite the experience. The cars that are coming from the Village are not really going so fast, but cars coming from the other direction speed down the hill. There are signs posted as shown in the picture, but alot of people still zoom past. We wait until it is clear and run across the street, I think there should be more signs posted further up the hill to let people know there are pedestrians crossing the street and to start to slow down. I would just like to see something done before a bad accident happens.

Safety Tips for Port Jeff residents

OK, so last summer I was looking out of my window at about (maybe 1am) and noticed 2 young men trying to get into the older women's house right across the street from me. I saw them trying to turn the front doorknob, seeing if they could get in through the screened porch and right as they were making there way to the rear of the house I made a loud noise to try and scare them. It worked and by this time I was already on the phone with the police and my friend called code from her cell phone. Code came by in about 5 minutes and then scpd did some drive bys up and down the block, but I guess the 2 took off. One of them had a backpack, and I could only imagine what would have happened if they gained entry into this older women's home, there has been some scary stories on the news with home break ins and what not. So I was just reading the Police Report section of the Port Times Record and saw a similar story of a home that had a screen cut and a purse stolen. I know many homes in the area have porches with screens around them, and alot of people feel very safe since it is Port Jefferson Village, but people from other areas come to these places to try and make a quick buck. If everyone would just make sure all doors, windows, and all other entry points are locked, it could make the world of difference. I have noticed a good police presence this summer with cops walking the beat, and on bike patrol and that does help, so lets just be as safe as possible and if you see something, say something.
